The European Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators was established in 1993, and it is one of the Institute’s largest branches, both geographically and in terms of the number of members. The branch covers all of continental Europe and has more than 600 members from no less than 35 countries and states across the continent. It is the Branch’s breadth and diversity that places it in a unique position among the continent’s other professional organisations in the field of dispute resolution.
The European Branch of CIArb is the only organisation in the field of ADR offering its members opportunities for training and networking across Europe, with the chance to share their experiences. More significantly, only the CIArb can offer training courses that culminate in professional designations that are recognised internationally.
Each year, the Branch holds its AGM and Annual Conference in a different European location; in 2015 we will visit Nice in the South of France. The Branch established its first chapter in The Netherlands in 2003, and further chapters have been formed in the Baltic region and in Germany. The formation of other chapters is currently being considered in a number of locations, and the branch is also active in promoting the Institute’s interests in Eastern Europe. The Branch’s cosmopolitan nature is reflected in the composition of its Committee.
Our Chairman is Swiss, our Vice Chairman is English living in France, the Secretary is an American domiciled in The Netherlands and its Treasurer is from Scotland, now also resident in The Netherlands. Other members of the committee hail from Austria, Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland.
